Billy Blue School of Graphic Arts
General Info
The Billy Blue School of Graphic Arts began in 1987 to
train people like you for careers in the exciting world of communication and
multimedia design. We use our extensive industry knowledge to provide an
educational environment which mirrors how design and advertising agencies
operate.
Students come from Australia and all over the world to benefit from a
dynamic creative environment where they are trained to meet industry
demands. We prepare students, both with the practical skills - in the fields
of communication design, advertising, publishing, packaging, and multimedia
design - and the formal qualifications they need to launch successful
communication and multimedia design careers worldwide.
Graphic Arts Courses:
- Design Fundamentals (Certificate II) - 18 weeks*
- Certificate IV in Communication Design - Year 1
- Advanced Diploma in Communication Design - Year 2
- Bachelor of Design (Communication Design or Multimedia Design) awarded by
Swinburne University - Year 3
(*Design Fundamentals can either be taken as a short,
stand-alone course in the basics of communication design or used as an entry
point to the main course pathway by students who are unable to meet the
Entry Requirements for the Certificate IV)
You can choose either the Communication Design or Multimedia Design stream,
depending on which creative area you wish to qualify and establish your
career in.
Billy Blue School of Graphic Arts provides a flexible entry and exit study
pathway - you can enter at the level appropriate to your academic background
and experience, and exit once you have attained your desired qualification.

Design Portfolio
Ideally, this should include both computer work and free drawing/painting
samples so we can assess your range of skills, but you are welcome to
include anything which you feel represents your interests and abilities. For
example, some applicants provide samples of artistic photography, ceramics,
fashion designs, sculptures or models together with their computer and free
drawing work.
Choose samples which you think best represent your individual creative
ability and interests.
The safest and most convenient way to provide your portfolio is on CD.
If you cannot provide a portfolio at this stage, we recommend that you first
enrol in our 18-week Design Fundamentals program which will equip you with
basic design skills and knowledge and a portfolio.
